Jacob K. Gantz

December 11, 1925 — March 9, 2010

Jacob K. Gantz, 84, of 544 North Penryn Road Manheim died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Pleasant View Retirement Community Manheim.

Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Jacob O. and Ella Kopp Gantz. Jacob worked for the former Cloverleaf Dairy for 25 years; he also was employed at the James Blum Company, Fuller Company and Weis Markets all in Manheim. He served in the Army during WWII as a Tank driver in the 11th Armored Division. Jacob was the loving husband of Evelyn I. Capwell Gantz and they observed their 62nd wedding anniversary in July 2009. He was a member of the Elstonville Sportsmen Association where he was the coach for theirBB's Shooting Team. He also enjoyed coaching for the Manheim Community Little League baseball and Penryn Little League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his cabin Maple Tree Lodge in Perry County.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Gloria A. wife of Warren Meiskey and a son, Dennis E. husband of Margaret M. Lightstone Gantz, all of Manheim, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three brothers, Robert husband of Miriam Gantz of Manheim, Edward husband of Georgie Gantz of Lancaster County and Frank husband of Brenda Gantz of Manheim. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer K. Walmer, four brothers and seven sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square Manheim on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Interment is in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a public viewing at the funeral on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
