J. Vincent "Vinnie" Rooney

J. Vincent “Vinnie” Rooney, 77, of Manheim and formerly of Staten Island, NY, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice, Lebanon. Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late James Rooney and Ellen Reilly Gaffney. Vin was the loving husband of Annette Maiello Rooney and they celebrated 52 years of marriage in February. He retired after working thirty two years for Merrill Lynch in Manhattan and part-time at the Manheim Auto Auction. They moved to Manheim in 1994 to be closer to their daughter, Stephanie. Vin was an active member of St. Richard Catholic Church, Manheim. For many years he served as a Eucharistic Minister in New York and Manheim. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a radioman and was a member of the Knights of Columbus #14524 and the Manheim American Legion Post 419. Vin enjoyed watching his New York Yankees and New York Giants. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his five grandchildren. His daughter, Stephanie was with him every day during his hospital stay and she will miss him very much. Vin also had the best of friends anyone could ask for.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Stephanie wife of Jeff Knosp of Manheim, five grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jeremy Knosp of Manheim, Caitlin, Christina and Anthony Hanratty of New Jersey and a sister, Bernadette Healy of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by a son, James Rooney, a daughter, Colleen Hanratty and a sister, Vera Terranova.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 North Oak Street, Manheim on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Father Francis T. Menei as celebrant. Interment will be private. There will be a public viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Monday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a Christian Prayer Service starting at 7:30 PM. There will be an additional viewing at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
