J. LaMar "Larry" Beam

November 19, 1926 — June 27, 2016

J. LaMar “Larry” Beam, 89, of Maytown, and formerly of Manheim, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late, John M.H. and Blanche Deichler Beam. He was the husband of the late Viola R. King Beam who died in 2006.

Larry served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Koren Conflict and in the Navy Reserves for a total of 22 years.

An electrician and member of IBEW414, Larry retired in 1988. In retirement, he worked at the Manheim Auto Auction for 18 years and Migdon-Rhodes, Manheim.

A 33 degree Mason and Shriner, he had the honor and privilege to travel thru the Scottish and York Rite of freemasonry, and was an active member of Masonic Lodges in Lancaster, Lebanon, Reading, and Manheim.

Larry was a member of the Maytown Reformed United Church of Christ, Manheim Lions Club, and was a charter member and past president of Manor Ridge Lions Club.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Larry especially enjoyed working on crafts and projects at his home and sanctuary in Maytown, where his presence will be greatly missed by his friend and companion, Ginny Emswiler and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Larry will also be lovingly missed by a daughter-in-law, Joyce Beam of Delaware; a stepson, E. Lee husband of Charlyn Barshinger of Manheim; stepdaughter, Carol Lebo of Schaefferstown; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters: Patricia Coyle of Lancaster, Martha wife of William Zercher of Strasburg, and Sandra wife of Jere Schlemm of East Petersburg. Preceding him in death is a son, Barry S. Beam, a sister, Lou Ann Ernst and a step son-in-law Richard Lebo.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a service of remembrance and celebration of Larry’s life at 172 Vinegar Ferry Road, Marietta, (near Maytown) on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be held privately in Manheim Fairview Cemetery.
