J. Franklin “Frank” Becker, 86, formerly of East High Street, Manheim, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Manheim he was the son of the late Aaron H. and Susan Shenk Becker. Frank was the husband of Thelma J. Kover Ruhl Becker and they observed their 25th wedding anniversary in March of this year. His first wife was the late Ruth Geib Becker who died in February of 1982. Frank retired after working as a truck driver for over 50 years at E.E. Shenk and Sons in Elizabethtown; he also worked as a self-employed truck driver hauling corn and coal for many years. Following retirement Frank worked for Lester Stauffer, helping with Amish transportation throughout central Pennsylvania. He was a member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren, Manheim. Frank enjoyed attending auctions; he was a faithful worker at the produce auction at Root’s Country Market in Manheim and volunteered at numerous benefit auctions over the years. Frank’s interests included hunting and going to the mountains. He had a passion for people and enjoyed making new friends everywhere he traveled.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, J. Marlin husband of Nancy Hershey Becker of Manheim, a daughter, Ruth Ann wife of Roy Barr of Lititz, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a step daughter, Barbara wife of Raymond Meyers of Mount Joy, three step sons: Ray husband of Cindy Ruhl of Mount Joy, Steve husband of Dottie Ruhl of Lancaster, Ken husband of Joyce Ruhl of Elizabethtown, eight step grandchildren, thirteen step great grandchildren, three sisters: Goldie wife of Harold Wagaman of Manchester, Suie Ann Kreiser of Manheim, and Doris Becker of Manheim. Preceding Frank in death is a son, Glenn Becker, an infant son, a step son, Timothy Ruhl, one brother, and four sisters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the White Oak Church of the Brethren, 1211 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with additional viewing time on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Chiques Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
