Isaac D. “Ike” Bomberger, 85, formerly of Penryn passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Penryn, he was the son of the late Claude and Mary Dohner Bomberger. He was the loving husband of Lois Irvin Bomberger and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May. Retired in 1992, Ike worked for over thirty years at the former Alumax, Lancaster. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Caperton. Ike was an active and faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penryn where he served on church council, usher and rang the church bell for many years. He was also a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587 F&AM, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Lancaster County Shrine Club Oriental Band, Elstonville Sportsmen Association, Lancaster County Firemen’s Association and the Zembo Antique and Classic Car Unit, Harrisburg. Ike also enjoyed his time as a member of the Penryn Fire Company, where he was a member since the age of sixteen. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors at his cabin in Potter County.
Lois wishes to give heartfelt thanks to the Pleasant View Retirement Community nursing staff in skilled care and Hospice & Community Care for their service and kindness to Ike.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a brother, Carl husband of Greta Bomberger of Lancaster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael I. Bomberger who died in 2008.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1258 Newport Road, Penryn on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a public viewing at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM with a Masonic Service to follow and additional viewing at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
