Wayne Brubaker departed his earthly life on March 23, 2017, in his Lancaster home in the presence of his loving family. He was born November 10, 1918, in East Hempfield Township to the late Wayne G. and Lillie Bard Brubaker. He married Evelyn M. Pickel on September 28, 1940. After working on the family farm, he worked during World War II in the Philadelphia Naval Yards as a steamfitter on the U.S.S. New Jersey. In 1945 he founded I. W. Brubaker Plumbing, Heating & Spouting, today known as Brubaker Inc., Lancaster.
Wayne’s joys included his family, golf, wintering in Sarasota, FL, national and international travel, antique cars, volunteering and his church. His memberships included East Petersburg Mennonite Church, East Petersburg Rotary, Bird-in-Hand Hunting Club, Red Rose Auto Club, and Enterprise Stock Club. Volunteering with Mennonite Disaster Service took him to Honduras, Africa and throughout the Eastern United States.
During 76 years of marriage, Wayne and Evie parented three sons, Donald, husband of Esther Brubaker Brubaker; Gerald, husband of Margaret Sheridan Brubaker; and David, husband of Kay Ament Brubaker, all of Lancaster. He was especially proud of his seven grandchildren: Douglas Brubaker; Brenda, wife of Jim Dietrich; Debra, wife of Karl Hancock; Neil, husband of Katey Kreider Brubaker; Brian Brubaker; Graig, husband of Carolyn Anthon Brubaker; and Katelyn, wife of Justin Smith; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. In addition to his wife and other family mentioned, he is also survived by his brother Albert P., husband of Betty Brubaker, Lancaster. Preceding him in death was his twin brother, W. Bard Brubaker, and his sister, Marilyn Machen.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service for Wayne at the East Petersburg Mennonite Church, 6279 Main Street, East Petersburg, on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 3:30 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Prior interment will be private in the adjoining church cemetery.
