Howard S. Miller

Howard S. Miller, 71, of Main Street, East Petersburg, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. Born in Rapho Township, he was the son of Mary Sauble Miller of Mastersonville, and the late Cleo Miller. Howard was the loving husband of the late Nancy L. Hostetter Miller who died in December of 2010. Nancy and Howard observed their 50th wedding anniversary in July of last year. For over 40 years Howard worked as an insurance agent and broker and owned and operated with his wife the former Howard S. Miller Insurance Agency in East Petersburg. Howard also worked for the United States Post Office East Petersburg Branch and served with the United States Air National Guard at the Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown. He was a charter member of the Bridge United Methodist Church, Mount Joy; and was a member of the Gideons International Lancaster North Camp. Howard was a member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587 and the Zembo Shrine of Harrisburg. He had an enthusiastic passion for hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and the beach. Howard traveled extensively throughout the world on hunting and fishing excursions with his wife for many years. Surviving is a daughter, Kelly S. wife of Dennis L. Shelly of Manheim, a grandson, Justin A. Shelly, and a sister, Lois wife of Nolan King of Urbana, Ohio. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Ruhl's United Methodist Church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim, on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Ted McCabe and Pastor Rob Timlin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be a viewing at the Ruhl's United Methodist Church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Howard's memory to the Bridge United Methodist Church 5048 Fieldview Drive, Mount Joy, PA 17552, or Gideons International Lancaster North Camp P. O. Box 638 Lititz, PA 17543.
