Howard Barton Rathman, 85, of Manheim, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. He was the husband of Janet L. Rathman for 33 years.
Howard was born in Lancaster, the son of the late Howard F. and Fanny M. Rathman. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Penryn, where he sang in the choir for many years. Howard was a member of Christiana Lodge #417 of Free and Accepted Masons. After 40 years of service, he retired from Schenke Tool Company of Paradise.
He was a graduate from Paradise High School in 1949 and served in Korea in 1953-54 with the U.S. Army. Howard was a marathon runner, having completed 13 marathons, including Boston and New York. He enjoyed bird watching, woodworking and making replicas of antiques and local historical buildings.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two step-daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Lowell Heisey, and Diane, wife of Seth Kensinger; step-granddaughters Laura Martyn, Andrea Hawthorne, Carolyn Kocot and Grace Kensinger, and step-great grandchildren Layla and Mason Hawthorne, Emma and Jackson Martyn, and Everett Kocot. Two brothers, Richard and Paul Rathman, and a sister Edna Bush, pre-deceased him.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
