Herbert L. “Lewie” Hummel, 87, of Reading, formerly of Manheim, died Wednesday January 16, 2019 at Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary E. (Loverich) Hummel, of Reading, and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past December. “Lewie” or “Herbie” as he was affectionately known, was a family man through and through. He would drop everything if a friend or family member needed help. He was 100% selfless and the loss of him be felt by all of his family. He was of the Christian Faith, and Lewie proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Corleen Sanders, Manheim, Vivian Hummel, Lebanon; two grandchildren Olivia and Graham Sanders; one great-granddaughter Riley Sanders; and a brother Charles E., husband of Blanche Hummel, Lebanon.
There will be a time of viewing and visitation with the family at Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Wednesday January 23, 2019 from 12 noon until 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors will be at 2:00 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
