Helga Walbrecht Peters

Helga Walbrecht Peters, 76, of Manheim, died peacefully of natural causes on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Kisil, Bessarabia, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Else Bohnet Hinss. Helga immigrated to the U.S. in 1956 with her parents and sister to Coatesville where they were sponsored by the Lutheran Church. She was the loving wife of George F. Peters Jr. and they would have observed their 13th wedding anniversary in September of this year. Her first husband the late Juergen Walbrecht died in June of 1996 following 34 years of marriage. Helga was employed for almost 30 years for Manheim National Bank which later became Susquehanna Bank, Manheim Branch, where she worked as a teller and teller trainer. She was an active and faithful member of the Worship Center, Lancaster, where she served as a greeter. Helga served as Judge of Elections, in Penn Township for many years. Her memberships included: Manheim Jaycee Janes, Manheim P.T.O., Brownie Troop Leader for the Manheim area, Lancaster Liederkranz, and Artisans. Helga had a true passion for life and loved time with family, enjoyed her friends, cooked with no recipes but with a lot of love, trained as a seamstress. She was always ready for the next ocean cruise and was preparing to retire to Florida.

Surviving in addition to her husband George is a daughter, Monica Walbrecht wife of Barry Gilman of Jacksonville, Fl., a son, Robert Emil husband of Tracy Lynn Tout Walbrecht of Lititz, three step daughters: Gwen Krilova of Wilmington, Del., Julie Peters of Lititz, Jennifer Wiegand of Lititz, and a step son, Jeff husband of Dawn Peters of Rothsville, seven grandchildren: Sara Walbrecht, Joshua Gilman, USN., Jared Gilman, Ryan Wiegand, USMC., Isabella Peters, Shaina Peters, Savanna Peters, and a sister, Lotte Spandler of Harrisburg.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in East Fairview Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Rapho Township. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Helga’s memory to the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
