Helen Virginia Allen passed away peacefully at age 93, on March 14, 2014, at the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown, PA; her residence for the last 15 years. She was born October 20, 1920 on Wolfe Street, South Philadelphia, of Charles E. Allen and Emma E. Allen.
Helen was an avid traveler, history buff and person of faith. She followed the family tradition and became a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, in the Francis Scott Key Chapter # 256. She enjoyed a long career in Human Resources, working for Whitman Chocolate and the Schmidt Brewing Co. in Philadelphia, where she got to know many of the employees as friends. While at the Masonic Village she contributed as front desk volunteer and kept the library in order.
Helen is survived by her brother, Charles E. Allen, Jr. of Lewes, DE; six nieces and nephews and six grand-nieces and nephews. She will be missed as a favorite aunt who remembered all the birthdays, had the sharpest memory for family history, and who showed an interest in the lives of all who came in touch with her.
A private burial will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, South Philadelphia, where her grandfather was a sexton for many years and where Helen was active in Luther League and a Sunday School teacher.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s memory may be sent to Masonic Charities, Office of Gift Planning, 1 Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown PA 17022.
