Helen Rumsey Rummel, 86, of Manheim, and formerly of Palmyra and Ambler died unexpectedly yet peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2011, in Loganville. Born in Lima, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Effie Spitzer Rumsey. In her early years Helen worked as an Accountant for Westinghouse Corporation. She was the loving wife of Reverend Donald W. Rummel, and they would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary on August 25th of this year. Throughout her life she was a constant support for her husband's ministry. Helen was a faithful and active member of the East Fairview Church of the Brethren in Manheim. She had a passion for her family, enjoying and excelling in her chosen role as a devoted wife and mother. Her other special talents included being a great home cook, a grammar and spelling perfectionist, a coupon queen extraordinaire, completing crossword puzzles (in ink!), winning at Scrabble and rooting for her Ohio State Buckeyes. Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters: Echo J. Rummel of Silver Spring, MD, Lynette Rummel married to Rhys Payne of Marlboro, VT, and Lisa Getty married to James Getty of Champlain, NY; two sisters: Hilda married to Don Cary of Lima, OH, and Hazel married to Don Mowery of Findlay, OH; as well as two sisters-in-law: Harriet Rumsey and Miriam Rumsey. Preceding her in death are three brothers: Glenn McCune, Roy Rumsey and Dale Rumsey. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the East Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1187 Fairview Road, Manheim, PA, on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 7:00 PM with Barry L. Weidman leading the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Thursday evening from 5:30 PM until the time of the service.
