Registered Nurse, Minster’s Wife
Helen H. Bowlby, 97, of Lititz, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at the United Zion Retirement Community. Born in Rapho Township, Helen was the daughter of the late Jacob Z. and Naomi K. Stauffer Hackman. Helen was the loving wife of the Reverend Glenn H. Bowlby who died in 1984. She was a member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren. Helen received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. Later, she was the nursing supervisor at Hillcrest Retirement Community and the clinical nurse at LaVerne University, both in Laverne, CA. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening. Because of her interest in family, she researched and wrote the genealogy of her family history. She faithfully helped her husband with his ministry over the years.
Surviving are two sons: David H. husband of Judy Bowlby, of Lititz, John H. husband of Andria Bowlby of Prescott, AZ, a daughter, Joanne H. Johnsen, of Chico, CA, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ruth Brown Hackman of Timonium, MD. Preceding her in death is a son, William H. Bowlby, two sisters: Grace Koser, Jane Heisey, and two brothers, Russel and Elwood Hackman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Helen’s funeral service at the Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 West Orange Street, Lititz, on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private in Chiques Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
