Harry J. "Hank" Hagan

Harry J. Hank Hagan, 87, of Lititz, and formerly of Manheim, passed away at Moravian Manor, Lititz, on Tuesday, February 7, after a brief illness. Born in Mount Airy, Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret Gallagher Hagan. Hank was the husband of the late Marianna W. Hagan who passed away in June 2009. They had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in September 2008.



Hank graduated from LaSalle College High School in Philadelphia, in 1941. He served his country during World War II (1942-1945) as a member of the 756th Tank Battalion in the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater that included Africa, Italy and France. After the war, Hank returned to Philadelphia where he attended LaSalle College and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science. Degree in Industrial Management. Hank worked for Amp Incorporated in Harrisburg for 22 years and retired in 1985.



Looking for an activity that the entire family could enjoy, Hank and Marianna learned to ski at the ages of 49 and 46 respectively. They were hooked. From that point on, winter weekends were spent with the family skiing at Denton Hill in Potter County, Pennsylvania. Hank was also an active member of the Lancaster Ski Club where he and Marianna took numerous ski trips throughout North America and Europe.



In 1985, Hank and Marianna learned to sail. Hank was an active member of the North East Yacht Club in North East, Maryland, where he participated in numerous sailing races. In addition, Hank and Marianna took numerous extended sailing trips, exploring the Chesapeake Bay with family and friends. Throughout his life, Hank was an active and faithful member of St. James Catholic Church Lititz, and early in his life was a member of St. Richard Catholic Church Manheim. His interests included: golfing, sailing, skiing, and crossword puzzles.



Hank is survived by his 6 daughters: Kathleen M. Kate Ritter of Lititz; Nadine A. wife of Christopher Holladay of Carlisle; Lisa W. wife of Danny Alexander, of Annville; Carol J. wife of William Kelly of Manheim; Marianna L. Marnie wife of Stephen Bowers of Mount Joy; and Janine P. wife of Roger Reynard of Boise, Idaho; andhis 4 sons: Gregory S. husband of Teresa Riden Hagan of Columbia; Kevin M. husband of Debra Miller Hagan of Gainesville, Virginia; David A. husband of Cynthia Geib Hagan of Manheim; and Daniel J. husband of Jennifer Manning Hagan of Pennsburg; 22 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Hank is also survived by 2 sisters: Teresa Henry of Green Lane, Pennsylvania, and Delores DePue of Horsham, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his wife Marianna W. Hagan, sister Margaret Reardon, brother Joseph Hagan, brother Richard Hagan, brother-in-law Joseph Riling, and brother-in-law Joseph Burgoyne.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Christian Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m.Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 North Oak Street, Manheim, on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Francis Menei as celebrant. Prior to the mass, beginning at 10:00 a.m., there will be additional visitation with the family at the church. Following the mass, a luncheon will be held at the Fellowship Hall at St. Richard Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township, will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, Hanks family requests donations be made to the Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
