Hans W. Sagemuehl, 92, of Lititz, passed away on September 23, 2015 at Luther Acres in Lititz. Born in Bremen, Germany, he was the son of the late Henry and Kathe Deterding Sagemuehl. He shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with Mildred J. “Mitzi” (Zilles) Sagemuehl, who passed away in 2014.
Hans served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II. Formerly of Reading and Cotuit, MA, he was a volunteer at the Cahoon Museum of American Art in Contuit and was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lititz.
A skilled craftsman, Hans was an avid radio control airplane modeler and found enjoyment flying his planes. He was active in the Luther Acres woodshop and through the years crafted Sailor’s Valentine boxes, a grandmothers clock, boats, and doll and baby furniture.
His wanderlust often got the best of him and led him on travels all over the US and Europe with Mitzi.
He retired as a design engineer after 36 years of employment with the Pennsylvania Optical Co. of Reading and later worked for H. L. Bouton Co. in Cape Cod, MA.
He is survived by a son, Craig H., husband of Diane Sagemuehl, Sinking Spring; daughter, Jeri L., wife of Ingo May, Kennett Square; granddaughters, Dawn Troutman, wife of Jeffrey Troutman, Trisha Duffie wife of Andre Duffie, Sarah May; and three great grandchildren.
Donations in memory of Hans may be made to Luthercare, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, PA 17543.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 12th at 1:30 pm in the Luther Acres Community Room, 600 E. Main St., Lititz. Burial will be held privately in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Exeter.
