H. Reid Graybill, 80, of Lititz, and formerly of Manheim, died peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late H. Roy and Stella Hollinger Graybill. He was the loving husband of Inda Buch Graybill and they would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary on February 22nd. Reid was a 1955 graduate of Manheim High School. In 1958 Reid founded Graybill’s Tool and Die Incorporated, Manheim; and was president of the corporation until 2012 when he officially retired and turned the leadership of the company over to two of his sons. He was a member of the National Tooling and Machining Association, served on the Administrative Board and was Chairman Coordinator of Apprenticeship Training School. Reid was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. During the Viet Nam Conflict Reid served in the U.S. Navy as a Sonarman third class.
Throughout his life Reid was devoted to giving back to the Manheim Community; he served Manheim through Borough Council, Borough Authority, Civil Service Commission, Manheim Area Economic Development Corporation, as one of the founders for Manheim Central Foundation for Educational Enrichment, and on the administrative Board for Fulton Bank, Manheim Branch. Other memberships included, Manheim Historical Society, Manheim Garden Club, Manheim Sportsman Club, 50-year member of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim, LCBC Manheim Campus, Manheim Lions Club, Manheim and Lancaster Chambers of Commerce. Reid had a passion for the outdoors and to be anywhere near the water where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time at Bethany Beach. He loved being with his family and friends on his boat cruising the Chesapeake Bay. In his early years he enjoyed hunting with his three sons; and later in life Reid developed a love for the game of golf and for landscaping and plant gardening, and spent countless hours outside his home creating special, unique areas for family and friends to experience.
Surviving in addition to his wife Inda, are three sons: Gerald husband of Jenny Graybill of Manheim, Geoffrey husband of Karen Graybill of Lititz, Kevin Graybill of Manheim, four grandsons: Andy, Adam, Jason, Jordan, three great grandchildren: Logan, Micah, Autumn, a brother, Richard husband of Jackie of Penryn, a sister, Darlene wife of Harold Mummau of Manheim, two sisters-in-law: Delores Root Graybill and Elaine Beamesderfer Graybill Ream all of Manheim. Preceding him in death are three brothers: Carl, Robert, and Donald Graybill.
The Graybill family would like to thank the staff and physicians of The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health, The Lancaster Cancer Center, and specifically Dr. Tracy DeGreen for all the support and wonderful care given to Reid during his illness.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Reid’s Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel Area of Steinman Hall at Moravian Manor, 300 West Lemon Street, Lititz. Friends may visit with the family during a fellowship time with refreshments immediately following the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
