Gwendolyn S. "Gwen" Martin

Gwendolyn S. “Gwen” Martin, 83, of Manheim and formerly of Cypress Drive, Leola, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Marie Hiltner Sterneman. She was the loving wife of Ralph H. Martin and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in July of last year. Gwen retired as a tour guide and waitress for Plain & Fancy Farm Restaurant, Bird in Hand. She was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren. Gwen was also a former member of the James Buchanan Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and Farm Women. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Jenny M. wife of Donald Rettew of Reading, Sandy M. wife of Eli “Butch” Zook of Leola, a son, Jeffrey L. husband of Connie Vidzicki Martin of Leola, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Garrett, grandson, Michael Rettew and a brother, Ronald W. Sterneman.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service with refreshments. Interment will be private in Bareville Cemetery, Leola.
