Gilbert “Gil” Eshelman, 86, of Manheim, and formerly of York, died peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Luther Acres Manor, Lititz. Born in Emigsville, he was the son of the late Warren and Mary Mumper Eshelman. He and his first wife, the late Rhoda Nelson Eshelman were married for 60 years. Gil was also the loving husband of Shirley Coleman Shelly-Eshelman and they would have observed their fourth anniversary in October of this year. Gil worked for Panagraphics, Dover, and Perform Group, Emigsville, until his retirement. A U.S. Army veteran, Gil served during the Korean War. He was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster. Gil’s interests included: woodworking, hunting, bowling, gardening, reading, hiking, bicycling, and traveling to the Perry County Mountains. He was a member of the York Hiking Club, and would also spend many hours riding his bicycle on the York Heritage Trail. Gil had a life-long passion for his family and enjoyed spending time with his family throughout the years. He will be missed by his special “grand dogs”: “Russie” and “Suzi Q”.
Surviving in addition to his wife Shirley, is a daughter, Connie wife of Ralph Kabonick of York, three step daughters: Deb wife of Larry Haldeman of Manheim, Audrey wife of Bob Griffin of Middletown, Julie wife of Mark Menley of Reading, seven step grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, and a sister, Marian wife of Vance Stabley of Hanover. Preceding him in death is a sister, Vera Stein, and three brothers: Robert L., David, and Kenneth Eshelman.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Gil’s memorial service at the Calvary Church Chapel, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York.
