Gerard H. Lavoie, 91, of Manheim, and formerly of Hampton, Connecticut, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Born in Magog, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Henry and Rose Charboneau Lavoie. Gerard was the loving husband of Yvette S. Duchesneau Lavoie who died in June of 2006. For many years he worked in quality assurance for Pratt-Whittney Aircraft in Hartford, Conn., previously he was employed by General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Conn. Gerard served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an active and faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Hampton, where he served as Lector, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Gerard graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. His interests included: classical music, vegetable gardening, and reading. Gerard was a great father. His life- long passion was his family and he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Surviving is a daughter, Judith wife of John Osborn of Manheim, a son, Thomas G. husband of Carol Mackinnon Lavoie of Butler, a daughter, Janet wife of Daniel Schell of Lititz, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death is a sister, Jeanette Bonin.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
