George Robert Smith, 93, of Elizabethtown, and formerly of State College, died Thursday December 15, 2011, at the Masonic Village Health Care Center, Elizabethtown PA. He was the husband of Madge (Pearce) Smith who died in 1947, and Judy (Klepek) Smith who died in 1999. Born in State College he was the son of the late William Ezra and Mary E. (Keller) Smith. George Robert was a self-employed real estate broker in State College for many years before retiring to Florida, and then moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to his family. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in State College and Florida. George Robert served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a member and past commander of the American Legion Nittany Post 245 of State College. George Robert also served the State College community as a former councilman, and was on the Shade Tree Commission. He was also a director at the former Peoples National Bank. George Robert was also a member of the Odd Fellows # 1032, B.P.O.E. # 1600, and the Masonic Lodge # 700 F & AM, all of State College. Surviving are three sons, James Robert husband of Elizabeth Ann Smith of Carlisle, Thomas William husband of Barbara Smith of Munster, IN, Gary Keller husband of Marie Smith of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by two brothers William and Harold Smith. Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
