George H. “Hen” Sweigart, 87, of Manheim passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Mastersonville, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Edna Hoover Sweigart. He was the husband of the late Elaine Alleman Sweigart who died in 2007. Hen owned and operated the former Sweigart Tire Service, Manheim for over 25 years. In his earlier years, he worked at the former Newcomer Firestone, Elizabethtown. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WW II. Hen was a member of Hope Episcopal Church, Manheim. He was also a life member of the Manheim VFW Post 5956, Manheim American Legion Post 419, Elstonville Sportsmen Association, Manheim and Navy Club of Lebanon. Hen enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Surviving are five children, Marsha wife of Donald Dupler of Mount Joy, Connie wife of James Hilton of Florence, Arizona, Dennis husband of Donna Sweigart of Loveland, Colorado, Shirley wife of Joe Zern of Lebanon and Ginny wife of Frederick Dieffenbach III of Manheim; four grandchildren, Shana Hockenberry, Jordan Myers, Brittany and Noah Dieffenbach and one great grandson, Eli Hockenberry. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Snyder and two brothers, Lester H. and Frank H. Sweigart.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Tim Small officiating. Interment in Mastersonville Brethren In Christ Cemetery, Rapho Township with military honors. There will be a public viewing at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and again on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
