Gene V. Haatainen Wagner, 86, of Manheim passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold V. Haatainen who died in 1982, and the late Daniel W. Wagner Jr. A 1944 graduate of Manheim Central High School, she was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim. An avid reader, Gene also enjoyed sewing, traveling, swimming and playing with her great-grandchildren. She is a former employee of High Industries and Raymark Industries. Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Haatainen Wallace, wife of K.M. Wallace of New York, Christina Haatainen Jones, wife of Michael W. Jones of California and Hana Haatainen Caye, wife of William H. Caye of Pittsburgh, four grandchildren, Peter, Heidi, Bethany, and Jessica, three great grandchildren, Laura, Vera, and Lincoln. She is also survived by a brother, Gilbert Frey of Manheim and a sister, Geraldine Trout of Bethlehem. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Carrie Frey Strickler, two brothers, Glenn and Earl Strickler and a sister, Mary Lou Shenenberger. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 4:00 PM with Pastor James W. Roth officiating. Interment will be private in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 PM until the time of service.
