Franklin 'John' Sprout

November 9, 1929 — February 15, 2010

Franklin John Sprout, 80, of 216 North Laurel Street Manheim passed away on Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Lebanon Veterans Administration Medical Center. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late John and Daisey Garber Sprout.

Franklin retired in 1983 after serving as a police officer for over twenty years for Manheim Borough; following retirement he worked part time for the Manheim Auto Auction. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Franklin was the husband of the late Geraldine S. Kiehl Sprout who died in April of last year. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church Manheim. He enjoyed hunting and riding his scooter throughout the borough of Manheim even in his later years. Earlier in his life he was a volunteer fireman for the Hope Fire Engine and Hose Company Number One of Manheim.

Surviving is a daughter, Gail D. wife of Richard L. Group of Philadelphia, and a granddaughter, Sara Group. Franklin was the last of thirteen children in his family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Salem United Methodist Church 140 North Penn Street Manheim on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 9:30 AM with Pastor Jacquie Sheely officiating. Interment is in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville. There will be a public viewing immediately following the service at the church.
