Frank S. Schrawder, 93, of North Grant Street Manheim passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim.
Born in Hegins, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Oleda Scheib Schrawder. Frank was the loving husband of Frances Rothenberger Schrawder and they observed their 64th wedding anniversary in August of last year. Retiring in 1980, Frank taught Earth, Space and Science at the Ephrata Area Middle School. In his earlier years, he worked for the former Veteran Administration, Manheim and the Reist Seed Company, Mount Joy. Frank was a United States Army veteran serving during WWII. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture and he was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association. Frank was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Manheim where he served as a Deacon on the Church Consistory, taught Sunday school, and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Manheim Lions Club since 1947 and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions Club International. Other memberships included: Manheim Historical Society, Manheim American Legion Post 5956, Manheim Masonic Lodge #587, PA State Education Association and National Education Association. Frank volunteered for Meals on Wheels in the Manheim area. His interests included: hunting, fishing, traveling and reading.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Eugene D. and Gerald L. Schrawder both of Lancaster, one step granddaughter, Laura Kunde of Denver, Colorado, two nieces, Rachel Frederick and Beverly Klinger. Preceding him in death are two brothers, William and Albert Schrawder. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim, on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Dr. James W. Bright Jr. officiating. Interment is in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a public viewing in the Bright Library at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Please note: Masonic Services will be held in the Bright Library at 10:45 AM.
