Frances R. Schrawder, 95, of Manheim died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Leesport, she was the daughter of the late Otis S. and Kathryn Boyer Rothenberger. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Millersville State Teachers College. Frances was an elementary school teacher for over 33 years. In 1977 she retired following 22 years of teaching from the Manheim Central School District; previously she taught in the Monocacy and Ontelaunee Elementary Schools which were located in Berks County. She was a member of the PA State and National Education Associations and the PA State Education Association Retired Educators. She was the loving wife of 64 years to the late Frank S. Schrawder who died in January of this year. Francis was an active and faithful member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim, where she served as an Elder and Deacon on the Church Consistory, choir member, taught Sunday school, Bible school, involved with the women's guild and served as their President and also the women's fellowship group. Her passion throughout her life was her involvement in church, community, volunteering and friends. Frances' memberships included: Manheim Women's Club, Manheim Historical Society, and the Pleasant View Retirement Community Auxiliary. She volunteered for: Lancaster General Hospital Auxiliary, Nearly Nu Thrift Shop, Manheim, and Meals on Wheels for the Manheim Area. Frances was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Surviving are two sons: Eugene D. and Gerald L. Schrawder both of Lancaster, a granddaughter, Laura Kunde of Denver, Colorado, and a great granddaughter, Alice Kunde. Preceding her in death are four brothers: Otis Jr., Emerson, Eugene, Mervin Rothenberger, and four sisters: May White, Joan Hinerdeer, Elma Walton, and Kathryn Wiley. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at St. Paul's United Church of Christ 50 North Main Street, Manheim on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Gene Hill and Pastor James Bright officiating. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
