Evelyn S. “Evy” Balmer, 73, of Lititz, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Born in McAlisterville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Leister Shirk. She was the loving wife of James L. “Jim” Balmer and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December. Evy worked as a controller for Zeigler’s Distributor, Lebanon. She was a 1962 graduate from East Juniata High School and in 1964 she graduated from the former Thompson Institute, Harrisburg. Evy was a member of the Lititz Women’s Club and Game Girls Card Club. Her interests included traveling, reading, cooking and canning. Evy had a life-long passion for her family and she loved being a grandmother. Evy is described by many as kind, devoted, gentle, spunky and classy and will live on as our “spirit in the sky.”
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Angela Balmer wife of Laura LeBoeuf of Austin, TX and Heidi wife of Damian Dell’Oso of Wilmington, DE; five grandchildren, Quinn, Micah, Bella, Vincent and Michael and two siblings, Doris wife of George Meiser of McAlisterville and Leister husband of Nancy Shirk of Mifflintown. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Messick and two brothers, Kenneth and Dale Shirk.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 West Orange Street, Lititz on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private.
