Ethel Workman O’Neal, 97, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015, at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born in Erie on May 17, 1917, the daughter of the late Bliss and Johanna Workman. She was a lifelong Erie resident, moving to Elizabethtown, PA in 1994.
Ethel was previously employed at Boston Store for 10 years and worked with the PTA at Wayne School and East High School. She was very active in the Erepa Grotto Women’s Patrol and was President of the Tenants’ Association at Schmid Towers in Erie for several years. She traveled to Europe several times over the years with her two sisters, touring much of Europe and England.
Ethel is survived by one son, David B. O’Neal and wife, Nancy of Gettysburg; one daughter, Barbara Lu O’Neal of South Mountain, PA; one daughter-in-law Barbara Ann O’Neal of Mount Joy,; and her grandchildren Sharon O’Neal of Highspire; Deborah O’Neal of Lancaster; Heather Hamilton-Brown of Mechanicsville, MD; and Dennis O’Neal of Gettysburg. She had three great grandchildren, David A. Hamilton, Austin Brown and Walter Brown of Mechanicsville, MD. She also wanted to remember Kellee Sadler of Pittsburgh, and Karl Kovacs of Rockville, MD who she loved as if they were her grandchildren, and their children, Ashleigh and Joseph Sadler and Kelsey and Koby Kovacs.
In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace V. O’Neal; one son, Wallace B. O’Neal, and her two sisters, LuCeil Hunter and Ruth Speer.
Friends are invited to call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 536 W. 10th St., Erie PA on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m., with Rev. Susan Speakman officiating. Interment, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie.
