Estelle Stewart Sheesley DeVries, 92, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, joined her loved ones with Jesus on August 30, 2017. She was the wife of the late Ira Joseph Sheesley, who died in 1984, and the late Wilbur S. DeVries, who died in 1998. Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Catawissa, PA, she was the daughter of the late Estella Beaver Stewart and the step-daughter of Harry E. Stewart.
Estelle’s interests centered around her children, being a foster mother, scouting, and a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed writing and had numerous letters to the editor published. Vocal music was a life-long enjoyment and was enjoyed at the Brethren Village Chapel, as well as programs in the nursing center for many years. She was a member of the Worship Center, Leola and First Assembly of God, Lancaster.
Estelle is survived by a son Joseph P. Sheesley, Sr., Lancaster, daughters Ruth wife of the late Charles Walstrum, Marietta, Monica Sheesley of Wrentham, MA; a grandson Joseph P. Sheesley, Jr., Honey Brook, a brother H. Thomas Stewart USAF retired, Texas; and a sister Shirley Minnier, Avon CT and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands and parents she was preceded in death by a brother Lt. Col. Martin V. Stewart USAF.
A memorial service will be held at the Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster PA on Friday September 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
