Ervin Y. "Pete" Ober, Jr.

Ervin Y. “Pete” Ober Jr., 82, of Lititz, died peacefully following a brief illness on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Ervin G. and Elizabeth Young Ober. For over 30 years Pete worked as a machinist for the Fuller Company, Manheim. He was employed as a bus driver for the Warwick School District, Lititz; following retirement he served as a School Crossing Guard for the Lititz Police Department. He was the loving husband of Catherine E. Rohrer Ober and they observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in April of this year. Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Jerusalem Church, Penryn. Throughout his life Pete had a passion for auto racing. He was the patriarch of a three generation racing family that competed in local micro midget races. He was a lifetime member of the Lanco Micro Midget Racing Club and was a mentor to many drivers and mechanics in the racing community. He loved NASCAR, camping with his family, and hunting in Potter County.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons: Robert E. husband of Elizabeth A. Miller Ober of Brunnerville, D. Scott Ober companion of Robin Kline of Lititz, two daughters: Kathy A. wife of Gordon Woodson of Lititz, Carol L. Logeman of Brickerville, 9 grandchildren, 5 great granddaughters, a brother, Monroe Ober of Manheim, and a sister, Elizabeth Fellenbaum of Lititz. Preceding him in death is an infant daughter, Shirley Jean Ober and a sister, Pauline Nauman.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Jerusalem Church, 1620 Newport Road, Manheim (In the village of Penryn) on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Ruhl’s United Methodist Cemetery, Rapho Township. There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Sunday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with additional viewing on Monday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Pete’s memory to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
