Erma Louise (Wissler) Sloka, 77, went to be with her Lord, on Sunday January 18, 2015, at the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown, where she was a resident. Born on February 14, 1938 in her parents’ home in Quarryville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Thelma (Strubel) Wissler.
Erma is survived by husband Janis Sloka, Jr. of Elizabethtown; a daughter Deanna (Tim) Fry of Mount Joy; a son Janis (Laura) Sloka, III of Garrison, ND; four grandchildren Kyle (Colleen) Sloka-Fry of Ephrata, Gavin Fry of Mount Joy, Noah & Hannah Sloka of Garrison, ND; a sister Janet (Donald) Evans of Quarryville, a brother Richard (Sandy) Wissler of Peach Bottom; several nieces, nephews, great nieces,& nephews and their children.
Erma met Janis when she was employed by the former Hamilton Watch Co. of Lancaster. She as introduced through a blind date by her close friend Pat Grava Plotnieks. Erma and Janis eloped to Elkton, MD where they were married on April 15, 1961. Erma spent most of her children’s life as a stay at home parent. As the children were graduating, she was employed by Burns Security Co. until her retirement. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Elizabethtown, where she taught Sunday school and was the coordinator of acolytes and crucifers for many years.
Erma’s children are following her wishes, and at a later date they will gather at her favorite beach and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Erma’s favorite charity the Ronald McDonald House, 745 W. Governor Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
