Emma A. Myers

December 16, 1920 — June 27, 2011

Emma A. Myers, 90, of Long Farm Lane, Lancaster went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 27, 2011 peacefully surrounded by her family at the Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. She was born December 16, 1920 in Lititz, the daughter of the late Jason R. and Emma Landis Groff, and was a 1939 graduate of Manheim High School. April 5, 1941 she married Elmer S. Myers, who was deceased on September 22, 2002. She was a member of the Mount Joy Mennonite Church and in recent years also a member of the Bethany Fellowship of Landis Homes where she had lived for eleven years. She taught Sunday school and Bible school at East Petersburg and Mount Joy Mennonite Churches. Her pleasures were her Bible reading, communicating with family and friends, genealogies, biographies, cookbooks and music. She was a senior partner in Donegal Manor Farms. She and her family shared their home on the Mount Joy dairy farm from 1966 " 1979 and provided care for 56 elderly ladies averaging six at a time. She was the family barber for 59 years, enjoyed cooking, sewing, housekeeping, vegetable gardening and raising and trimming shrubbery. She is survived by one son, Walter Eugene Myers, one daughter, Mary Jane Myers both of Lancaster, three brothers, Ira L. (Fern) Groff, Robert L. (Dolores) Groff, Ellis L. (Shirley) Groff, three sisters, Elma L. (Melvin) Groff, Mabel L. (Clarence) Graham, Amy L. Groff Foreman, and seventy-three nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by five brothers and their wives, Elvin L. (Miriam) Groff, Clarence J. (Miriam) Groff, Aaron L. (Mabel) Groff, Landis W. (Esther) Groff, Roy M. (Ruth) Groff, and a brother-in-law, Herbert Foreman. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial service at the Landis Homes Retirement Community WEST BETHANY CHAPEL 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 3:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the WEST BETHANY CHAPEL on Saturday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. (due to construction, please use the West View Entrance and follow signs) There will be no viewing or graveside service due to Emma's desire to have her body donated to medical science research.
