Emily Myers Young, 84, formerly of Bird-In-Hand, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. Myers, Sr. and Alice A. Giberson Myers. Emily was the loving wife of 57 years of Robert G. “Bob” Young who preceded her in death on September 7, 2013. Emily graduated from McCaskey High School in Lancaster. She first worked as a bookkeeper at Franklin & Marshall College, then met Bob while working at Sperry New Holland where she was a secretary in the Advertising and Patent Departments and Bob was an agricultural engineer. She was a homemaker most of her life. Emily was a talented local artist whose paintings and sketches were published and displayed in local venues. She taught Sunday school and was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, where a number of her paintings are currently on display. She was also a member of the Mary Ferree Society. Emily loved cats, and was also a dedicated devotee of figure skating and choral music.
Surviving her are two sons, John Young of Rockville, MD, and David, husband of Sheri Young of Ashburn, VA; two grandsons: Patrick and Cooper Young; two brothers: Joseph G. Myers, Jr. of East Petersburg and George F. Myers of Landisville. Preceding Emily in death is a brother, John K. “Kenny” Myers.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Emily’s memorial service from the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the memorial service.
