Elwood "Woody" B. Hess

Elwood B. "Woody" Hess, 81, of Manheim, died at his home on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 following a brief illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter and Elsie Bemesderfer Hess. Woody was employed as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Corporation Lancaster for over 28 years; previously he worked on the family farm in East Hempfield Township. He was the husband of the late Doris L. Dombach Hess who died in May of 1992. Woody was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Petersburg. His interests included: boating, snowmobiling, and mowing the grass with his John Deere lawn tractor. He had a life-long passion for his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter. Surviving is a son, Randy E. husband of Jean A. Weisbecker Hess of Elizabethtown, a daughter, Luane L. wife of Randall C. Morrison of East Petersburg, 6 grandchildren: Jeremy husband of Angela Hess, Josh Hess, Becky Hess, Ryan Morrison, Kyle Morrison, Jenna Morrison, a great granddaughter, Ava Hess, a brother, Lester husband of Edith Hess of Lebanon, a sister, Arlene wife of Frank Hoxworth of East Petersburg, and a sister-in-law, Beatrice Hess of Manheim. He will be lovingly missed by a companion, Peggy Frey of Lancaster. Preceding him in death is a brother, Ray M. Hess. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church 1905 Broad Street, East Petersburg on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Woody's memory to Zion's Angels Relay For Life.
