Elizabeth H. Groff, 98, of Manheim, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 11, 2016. Born in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the late, Charles and Emma Heisey Cassel. Elizabeth was the wife of the late Ervin R. Groff who died in 1976. Elizabeth worked along-side her husband on the family farm, and was also employed in the food service department at Brethren Village. She was a member of the White Oak Church of the Brethren, Manheim, where she helped to make quilts at the church. Elizabeth volunteered for Meals on Wheels in the Manheim area for many years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. Elizabeth had a life-long passion for her family and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters: Reba wife of James Esbenshade of Willow Street, Phyllis Shaffer of Manheim, Marilyn wife of Carl Brubaker, Elaine wife of Glenn Stauffer both of Lititz; three sons: Harold C. husband of Janet Gibble Groff, Carl R. husband of Nancy Ober Groff, Mervin C. husband of Rachel Groff Groff all of Manheim, 20 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren. Preceding Elizabeth in death is a son-in-law, Ronald E. Shaffer, three sisters: Martha Patches, Mary Wagner, Emma Caplinger, and three brothers: Jere, David and Amos Cassel.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the White Oak Church of the Brethren, 1211 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Longeneckers Brethren Cemetery, Lititz.
