Elaine L. Hollinger, 78, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 13, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital as the result of a stroke. She shared 53 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Clyde M. Hollinger. Born in Lancaster on April 14, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Norman S. and Grace D. Landis. She grew up on a dairy farm in East Hempfield Township.
Elaine was a 1964 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School. After marrying Clyde, they went overseas to engage in mission work in Germany for two years. She was an LPN at Landis Homes, and for 15 years served families as the director of Adult Day Services at Landis Homes.
She was a member of Millport Mennonite Church for more than four decades, where she was a Sunday School teacher and mentor to many women. She enjoyed teaching at The Rock Connection in Rothsville. In years past she was a youth advisor, helped start the Children’s Church program, and helped lead the women’s ministry.
Elaine was an avid reader and found inspiration and delight in a variety of Christian authors’ work. In later years, she sewed many quilt tops and relief kit bags for Mennonite Central Committee. She will be remembered for her love of beauty, her works of art, her flower gardens and bouquets, her unceasing gentleness, her ready smile for everyone she met, her words of wisdom, her faithful prayers, and her selfless works of service to encourage and uphold those around her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Daniel S. Hollinger married to Kelly of Elizabethtown; daughter, Beth Kellum married to Wendell of Lancaster; daughter, Laurie Weitzel married to Matthew of Lancaster; thirteen grandchildren: Anna, Grace, Katie, Nora, Luke, Lydia, Caleb, Jonathan, Sophia, Josie, Gideon, Mary and Rose; and a brother, Clair Landis married to Marilyn of Saegertown. She was preceded in death by her sister, Merie Kreider.
