Earl F. “Smiley” Gernert, 87, of Manheim, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Londonderry Township, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian Winklebleck Gernert. He was the loving husband of R. Arlene Hoover Gernert and they observed their 69th wedding anniversary this past February. Smiley retired from the Wilbur Chocolate Factory, Lititz. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim. His interests included hunting, fishing and loved to spend time with his family
Surviving in addition to his wife, Arlene, are three children, Cheryl wife of Terry Fry of Lititz, Sharon wife of David Lynes and Dwayne husband of Ann Gernert both of Manheim, four grandchildren; Ashley, Benjamin, Christopher, Mason, and a brother, Sterling Gernert of Quentin. He was preceded in death by nine siblings, Katherine, Harry and Thomas Gernert, Elizabeth Fedder, Dorothy Van Scyoc, Eugene Gernert, Arlene Gingrich, Gerald and Robert Gernert.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Smiley’s Funeral Service at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2 South Hazel Street, Manheim on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 10:30 AM. There will be a viewing at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment in Ruhl’s United Methodist Cemetery, Manheim.
