E. Eugene “Gene” Hershey, 90, of Manheim, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Elmer H. and Esther Kreider Hershey. Gene retired from Alcoa, Lancaster. In his earlier years, he worked on the family farm on Bucknoll Road, Manheim. Gene graduated from Manheim High School in 1944 and he proudly served in the United States Army. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manheim and volunteered for the Manheim Ambulance Association. His interests included bowling, gardening, motorcycling, dirt track and Nascar Racing. He also enjoyed traveling to Florida and the Poconos.
Surviving is a brother, J. Richard husband of Mary Hershey of Duluth, MN, a sister, R. Elaine Dalley of Manheim, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Ilene Landis of Manheim.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Hershey.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Hoffer Auditorium, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private in Kauffman Mennonite Cemetery, Penn Township.
