Douglas R. Walker, 68, of Lititz, PA, died on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at home. He was born in Camden, NJ, the son of the late Reverend John and Cora (Gardiner) Walker. Doug graduated from Williamsport High School. He received his BA from Eastern University and went on to earn his Master’s and Doctorate Degree in education from the University of Vermont.
During Mr. Walker’s 45-year career in the field of education in Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Virginia, he served as a teacher, an administrator, a college professor, and in leadership positions at the Vermont Department of Education, and as a senior research assistant at RMC Research Corporation in Arlington, VA. Most recently Mr. Walker was employed as a project manager for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in the Central Dauphin School District in Harrisburg. Doug was an active member of the York (PA) Alliance Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon.
Doug celebrated his 47th wedding anniversary with his wife Lois on May 23. He was a caring father to his three children, and a wonderful grandfather to his five grandchildren. Doug had a positive outlook on life, a great sense of humor, and was guided by his strong faith. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was a longsuffering and enthusiastic Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed spending summer vacations with his family in Ocean City, New Jersey.
He leaves his beloved wife of 47 years Lois; his son Kevin and his wife Nanasue of Lititz; a daughter Megan Hutchinson and her husband Eric, of Baltimore; and a son Mark and his wife Angela, of Los Angeles. He also leaves a sister Arden Olsen and her husband the Reverend James Olsen of Dixon, IL. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron, and Adam of Lititz; and Nell and Walker of Baltimore.
A memorial service will be held at the York Alliance Church on 501 Rathton Road, York PA. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
