Dorothy S. Farkas, 87, of Manheim, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Born in East Drumore Twp., she was the daughter of the late Mahlon G. and Anna (Bucher) Shoemaker. She was the wife of Frank P. Farkas of Manheim. Dorothy was a graduate of Colerain & Quarryville High School, attended the former West Chester State Teachers College, and worked in sales for Willow Valley, Homestead Village, and Appel & Weber. Dorothy studied vocal music for four years with a private teacher. She used her vocal talent by singing with various church choirs and during church services at Pleasant View Retirement Community, where she was a resident. She was also a soloist with the AARP Chorus and a member of the Lancaster Symphony Chorus for twenty-five years. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving in addition to her husband are four children: daughters Suzanne M. Duncan of Fishers, IN; Sandra J. wife of Joe Bonenberger of Lancaster; Sharon E. Riley of Lancaster; and a son, Rev. Jeffrey S., husband of Sharon B. Heinaman, of Bound Brook, NJ; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Wittenberg, of Strasburg.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend services at the Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Road, Kirkwood PA, on Friday, November 8, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. Dorothy loved the color pink, and wearing this color is encouraged. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, adjacent to the church.
