Dorothy Mae "Dot" Strickler, 95, of Mount Joy, died peacefully, Sunday July 8, 2012 at St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia. She was formerly of Park St. in Elizabethtown and also of Hearthstone Manor in Mount Joy. She was the wife of the late Alvin M. Strickler who died March 1, 2000. Born in Elizabethtown she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Mary (Oberholtzer) Shearer. "Dot" as she was affectionately known, was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School and attended Elizabethtown College. Dot was a binder and press operator at Continental Press of Elizabethtown for many years. Prior to this she was a 1-room school teacher serving Londonderry Twp., Rheems, and Elizabethtown schools. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Mount Joy. Dot's greatest joy in life was devoting her life to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Surviving is a son N. Edwin (Ed) husband of Marieannet (Holjes) Strickler of Mount Joy; a daughter Bonnie E. wife of Robert O. Cain of Lancaster; five grandchildren Brent, Mike, Todd, Carrie, and Emily; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Hiram Shearer, Jr. of Hershey. She was preceded in death by two sisters Grace Bentzel and Kathryn Rhine, and a brother Harold Shearer. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Heilig Funeral Home, 21 W. Main St. Mount Joy on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Kraybill Mennonite Cemetery, Mount Joy. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dot's memory may be sent to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St. Mount Joy, PA 17552.
