Dorothy E. Burkholder, 91, formerly of Fruitville Pike, Manheim, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, in Lititz. Born in Elverson, she was the daughter of the late George O. and Grace G. March Ruoss. Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Mark F. Burkholder who died in October of 1983. Earlier in her life she worked in the Laundry at the Lancaster General Hospital. Throughout her life she performed domestic cleaning in homes in the Lancaster County area, as well as providing laundry, ironing services, and pet sitting for many families even into her later years. She was a loving housekeeper and enjoyed helping many families working till her most recent days. Dorothy was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Lititz, and enjoyed helping with the nursery, and hosting Bible classes in her home. For over 25 years she was a member of “TOPS” Take Off Pounds Sensibly, and she enjoyed her friendships she made with all the members. Her interests included flower gardening and camping, and she was a member of the Fan Trailer Club.
Surviving is a daughter, Martha Jane wife of Leroy Stoltzfus of Leola, a son, Norman F. husband of Donna Dennis Burkholder of Lititz, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandsons. Preceding her in death is a daughter, Velva Haldeman, a granddaughter, Sherri Troupe, 2 brothers: George and Lloyd Ruoss, and 2 sisters: Grace Ruoss and Ella Dunn.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM. Interment is in Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Penn Township. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
