Doris M. Johnson

d. September 22, 2015

Doris M. Johnson, 93, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2015 at Luther Acres in Lititz. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Louise Spielmann Mackerodt. She was preceded in death by her husband the late Alfred F. Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Johnson-Hurley, wife of Patrick Hurley, Pittsburgh; Gail Johnson, wife of George Nissley, Jr., Lititz; son, Glenn Johnson, husband of Cindy , Devon; and grandson, Ben Nissley, Philadelphia.

Doris was a graduate of the Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, NY and attended NYU. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and the Sons of Norway.

A long time member of the Embroiderers Guild of America, Doris started stitching in grade school and found great pleasure in the needlearts. Through the years Doris expanded her needlework skills and shared her talents by teaching classes, attending seminars throughout the U.S. and designing her own pieces. Each creation was a work of lifelong love.

She enjoyed using her sense of design to create a warm, loving home. Doris found joy in her flowers, spending hours maintaining her gardens through the seasons. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her family. Many afternoons were spent with her grandson at the dining room table working on art projects, which influenced his career as an architect.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Luther Acres for the compassionate care they provided to mom the past five years.
