Donald W. Duck Mowrer, 77, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at ManorCare Health Services, Elizabethtown. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Milton H. and Myrtle (Witmer) Mowrer. Donald graduated from East Donegal High School, Maytown, PA, in 1951. He retired from Burle Industries (the former RCA Corp.) of Lancaster. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry, having served an overseas tour in Korea. A member of the Mount Joy Church of God, Donald participated in the church softball league, both as a player and later as a coach. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, solving puzzles, and playing card games. In the past he was an avid bowler.
Surviving is a brother Robert W., husband of Naomi (Gerber) Mowrer of Marietta; a sister Marion Spinks of Elizabethtown; and three nieces: Amy Hoyer, Leslie Heindel, and Jill Beachy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd W. Joe Mowrer and Milton H. Bim Mowrer, and a brother in-law Andy Spinks.
Graveside services at Mount Joy Cemetery will be private; there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at 7:00 P.M., at Mount Joy Church of God, with Pastor Bob Malick officiating. There will be a time of visitation with the family in the fellowship hall following the service. Contributions in Ducks memory may be sent to Mount Joy Church of God, Building Fund, 30 E.
