Donald W. Griffith, 88, formerly of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Masonic Village Elizabethtown.

Born in Pen Argyl, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Mildred Miller Griffith. Don was involved in the grocery business throughout his life; he was the owner of Griffiths IGA Manheim for 22 years from 1964 to 1986. Previously he was employed as a manager for Acme Markets in the Lancaster County area. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Don was the loving husband of Jeanne M. Shaub Griffith who died in 2001. He was a member of St. Pauls United Church Of Christ Manheim and served on the church consistory. A 1939 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School Lancaster, Don also attended Lancaster Business School. Don was a Life Member of the Manheim Masonic Lodge 587 where he had received his 65year pin, a member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and the Harrisburg Consistory. Don volunteered many hours at the Masonic Village where he resided. He enjoyed flying and obtained his pilots certification in his early years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed going to the beach. Other interests included: fishing, oil painting, horse back riding, and cross word puzzles.

Surviving are two sons, Scott A. husband of Lois R. Kinsel Griffith of Lititz, Craig L. husband of Theresa M. Miciche Griffith of Manheim, a daughter, Deborah L. Griffith wife of Merv B. Brandt Jr. Manheim, five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, two great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, two sisters, Norma Thomas of Elizabethown, and Elaine wife of Robert Roth of Fountainville. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Lorna A. Griffith.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service from the Buch Funeral Home 21 Market Square Manheim, on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Pastor William J. LaSalle officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville. There will be a public viewing at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
