Donald E. "Scoop" Yingst, 81, formerly of Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Previously, Don was a resident for two years at Oak Leaf Manor, Landisville. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Harvey B. and Helen M. Tschudy Yingst. Don graduated from Manheim Central High School and received an Associate's Degree in Business from Franklin and Marshall College. He worked over 40 years in the office of the former Raymark Industries, Manheim. Don also was employed as a real estate agent for 16 years for local real estate agencies in Lancaster County. Don was the loving husband of the late Mary A. Gish Yingst who died in December of 2007. He was a very active and faithful member for over 50 years of Salem United Methodist Church, Manheim; where he helped start and served on the Appalachia Service Project for 9 years. Don also helped as a youth director, Sunday school teacher, camp counselor, and numerous church committee posts. He had an unlimited passion for sports and he was well known by the local fans and newspapers for his attendance and detailed reporting. Don's part time reporting on local sporting events found his articles printed in the Manheim Sentinel, Lititz Record, Harrisburg Patriot, Lancaster Newspapers, and local Merchandiser publications. In 2004 the Manheim Central School District recognized and honored Don for his service to the community and student athletes by naming the Press Box located at Elden Rettew Stadium in Don's name. Don was also recognized by the Manheim Central Alumni Association and was placed in the Manheim Central High School Hall of Fame. Don started the Manheim Baby Parade that takes place every year during the farm show events. His interests included: flower and vegetable gardening, traveling, and his beloved cats. He adored his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Surviving are three daughters: Jennifer M. wife of Greg Miller of Smethport, Gina M. wife of Steven Eshleman of Lititz, Lisa M. wife of Randall Beil of Phoenix, AZ., 9 grandchildren: Rebecca Durling, Rachel Darrah, Hannah Darrah, Jenna Eppinette, Evan Eshleman, Drew Eshleman, Madeline Beil, Grace Beil, Ava Beil, 5 great grandchildren, and a sister, Donna wife of Charles Parmer of Manheim. The family would like to thank all the staff of Oak Leaf Manor and Pleasant View Retirement Community for the wonderful care their father received. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at the Salem United Methodist Church 140 North Penn Street, Manheim, on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon. There will be a viewing at the church on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
