Donald S. Hontz Sr. 95, formerly of 121 West Colebrook Street, Manheim, died peacefully surrounded by his family, following a brief illness, on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. Born in Pond-Hill, he was the son of the late Freas W. and Josephine E. Peters Hontz. Donald worked as a miner at Bethlehem Steel for over 30 years at the Cornwall Mines. He was the husband of the late Melitta E. Eichhorn Hontz who died January 1997. Donald served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim. He enjoyed hunting and going to the mountains. His interests included watching the Philadelphia Phillies and he was an avid billiards player. He had a lifelong passion for his family, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are three daughters: Joanne E. Moyer of Manheim, Shirley L. Nissley of Englewood, FL, Kathy E. wife of Mervin Moyer of Manheim, a son, Donald S. Jr. husband of Stacy Miller Hontz of Manheim, seven grandchildren: Craig Moyer, Chris Moyer, Michelle Rybner, Jennifer Deans, Angela Hendrie, Shawn Hontz, Shelby Hontz, nine great grandchildren: Tyler, Tanner, Nathan, Jayna, Evan, Desiree, Austin, Dominic, Madison, a brother, Freddie Hontz of Sunbury and four sisters, Naomi wife of Ivan Hockenbrough, Arlene Knepp, Inez Campbell all of Sunbury and Lois Wood of Hummelstown. Preceding him in death are five brothers, Roy, Homer, Carl, Russell and Freas Hontz. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM There will be a viewing at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim on Sunday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM with additional viewing time on Monday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. There will be a public graveside service on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Sun Hill Road, Manheim.
