Donald Y. “Don” Royer, 88, of Manheim passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 9, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Harvey K. and Caroline Yeager Duncan Royer. He was the loving husband of Lois Linder Royer, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. He retired as a clutch specialist at the former Raymark Industries. Don was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Manheim and served two years in the United States Army.
Don was a lifelong sports enthusiast, a humorous storyteller, and a talented athlete. In high school, he played basketball and tennis, but it was his passion for tennis that led him to continue playing for Elizabethtown College and U.S. Army teams. Later, Don competed in tournaments to earn 23 singles titles and 75 doubles titles. He was MSTA-ranked for 20 years. For over 50 years, Don organized tournaments and leagues around Central Pennsylvania.
Don was inducted into the Manheim Central High School Hall of Fame in 2010, the Lancaster County Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003, and the USTA Middle States Hall of Fame in 2022.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Donna Royer Fortney (Brent) of Manheim, a son, Marcus Royer of Blain; five grandchildren, Kevin Grove of Lititz, Todd Grove (Kelsey) of Elizabethtown, Brandon Fortney of Marietta, Skye Dorman (Aaron) of Sayre, Donny O’Hara of Mineola, NY; and four great grandchildren, Blake Fortney, Gavin Fortney, Lilli Miller, and Kahlum Dorman. He was preceded in death by siblings Charles Duncan, William Duncan, Richard Duncan, Dorothy Bedger, and Betty Gibble.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Don’s Memorial Service at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Don’s memory to Manheim Tennis Club, 3523 Mount Joy Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 90 South Charlotte Street, Manheim, PA 17545.
