Donald L. Mensch, 82 of Rothsville, died peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Landis Homes Retirement Community. Born in Natalie, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Mildred A. Yocum Mensch. Donald was the loving husband of Elaine M. Sherman Mensch and they observed their 61st wedding anniversary in November of last year. Don received an Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Penn State University, Berks Campus; and worked as a mechanical engineer for Harley-Davidson, York and Tyco Electronics Corporation, Harrisburg, until his retirement. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Don was a very active and faithful member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rothsville; where he served on the church council, and was the treasurer of both the church and cemetery. He was a member of the Rabbit Hillers Seniors Group. For over 37 years Don helped with “VITA” Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. He taught adult education classes in machine design at J.P. McCaskey in Lancaster. During the “Harvest Days Celebration” Don would demonstrate cider making at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum. His interests included: travel, collecting trains, and attending auctions.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Elaine, are three daughters: Melinda wife of Harold Jackson of Honey Brook, Judi Becker of York, Diane wife of Randy Kauffman of Lititz, a son, Kurt husband of Erin Mensch of Lafayette, CO., seven grandchildren: Hilary Jackson wife of Brian Mork, Wyatt Jackson, Andrew Becker, Adam Kauffman, Naomi Kauffman, Emily Mensch, and Tara Mensch. Preceding him in death are four brothers: Billie, Ken, Aldon, and Robert Mensch.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Don’s memorial service at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 36 Church Street, Rothsville, on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
