Donald E. Hinerdeer, 88, of Manheim, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Henry B. and Laura Adams Hinerdeer. Don was the husband of Phyllis Shenenberger Showers Hinerdeer, and they would have observed their 27th wedding anniversary this month. His first wife was the late Joan Rothenberger Hinerdeer who died in June of 1987.
Don worked over 55 years for the Chrysler Corporation and Manheim Chrysler Plymouth as a Parts Manager and later as a courtesy driver. He was recognized for his many years of faithful service in the National Auto Dealer’s Magazine. Don joined his local auto parts guild when it was formed. Over time, he served in every elected capacity, including, president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Don had a lifetime passion for automobiles.
Don was an active and faithful member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Manheim, where he served as an usher, and as a deacon and elder on the church council.
Don was a 1946 graduate of the former Manheim High School. He was also a long time member of the “Manheim Ramblers” a local walking and hiking group. Don loved traveling and going to Florida every chance he could. He surrounded himself with friends and family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters: Kathy J. wife of Samuel M. Martin of New Holland, Donna H. wife of Douglas Givler of Landisville, two step sons: Jeff husband of Grace Showers of Elizabethtown, Jamie Showers of Manheim, seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother, Harold husband of Annette Hinerdeer of Lancaster, and three sisters: Gladys Long of Tucson, AZ, Doris LeGrand of Media, Shirley wife of Nevin Krentz of Ames, IA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Don’s funeral service in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 3:00 PM. There will be a viewing in Hoffer Auditorium on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Don’s memory to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 129, Manheim, PA 17545.
