Donald E. Farmer, 78, of Manheim, died Friday, February 1, 2013 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, following an 18 month battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster Junction, Penn Township, he was the son of the late George W. and Bernice Ehrhart Farmer. Don was the loving husband of Elizabeth H. “Betsy” Hershey Farmer and they observed their 54th wedding anniversary in April of last year. In 1997 Don retired from Penn Dairies Lancaster where he was employed for over 44 years. Following retirement, Don started working for the Manheim Auto Auction and he looked forward to each day working with his co-workers, who became family to him during his many years at the auction. He attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Manheim. Don was a graduate of Manheim High School Class of 1952. He enjoyed golfing, and had a passion for surf fishing, especially at the North Carolina Outer Banks and the Delaware Shores.
Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Sheila E. Farmer of Mount Joy, a son, Jeffrey A. Farmer of Manheim, three brothers: George Farmer Jr. of Manheim, Jerry husband of Sally Farmer of East Petersburg, Robert Farmer of Lancaster, two sisters, Patricia Sauder of Lancaster, and Bonnie Burkey of Tennessee. Preceding him in death is a brother Kenneth Farmer.
